Paving the Way Forward: Repaving The Chase Home’s Driveway

LeMay Family Goodworks was happy to contribute to The Chase Home’s “Pave the Way Forward” campaign, launched in May 2022, to raise funds to repave its driveway. And now, we are thrilled to say the driveway is complete!

“Part of the driveway was completed last October, but weather and scheduling issues delayed full completion until just recently,” said Meme Wheeler, executive director of The Chase Home. “We are thrilled and incredibly grateful for the generous support from the community.”

Previously, the driveway was in rough shape and posed significant hazards to vehicles, especially in the winter. Potholes caused problems for staff and delivery drivers, and The Chase Home found themselves spending a lot on band-aid fixes each year.

Next, Board President Brian Gibb says they plan to “reimagine” The Chase Home’s 26-acre campus. “We believe there is  room for growth, as the needs of at-risk kids intensify in an economic landscape that continues to put stressors on organizations like The Chase Home that serve as community anchors.”

Wheeler said, “We thank all those who helped us literally ‘pave the way forward.’”

We can’t wait to see what The Chase Home does next and to continue supporting their mission!

What is The Chase Home?

Founded in 1877 in Portsmouth, The Chase Home is one of New Hampshire’s oldest nonprofits. What started as an orphanage has evolved into unique programs continuing to serve at-risk youth and families in distress.

These include a variety of services both on-site and in the community, available to at-risk youth ages 11 to 21 and their families. The Chase Home provides “24/7 wrap-around, evidence-based clinical and therapeutic support designed to help them build tangible life skills.” Their signature programs include:

  • Residential Treatment Services: Young adults ages 11 to 19 live at The Chase Home, receive therapeutic services, and develop healthy coping skills and tools.

  • Home-Based Program: At-risk youth who need support as they transition back from the residential program or want to avoid residential placement receive support in the community and their homes.

  • Seacoast Community Diversion Program: Youth and families in distress in Portsmouth, NH, and several surrounding Seacoast towns access therapeutic groups and group, individual, and substance abuse counseling with a licensed alcohol and drug counselor (LADC).

  • Independent Living Program: ILP assists young adults aged 18 to 21 in transitioning from living at The Chase Home or with their parents in distressed circumstances into independent living with comprehensive therapeutic, vocational, and clinical support.

  • Summer Program: Over a few weeks, youth learn important skills like self-efficacy, self-esteem, and problem-solving through carefully planned activities.
