Although Live2Serve is located in Dover, they are conducting crucial projects in the Dominican Republic to improve the lives of the country’s underserved populations. Read on to learn more about their work.

About Live2Serve

Live2Serve is a non-denominational, faith-based New Hampshire nonprofit made up of 100% volunteers dedicated to using all of their talents and resources to honor God and serve Haitian and Dominican people in the Dominican Republic. Their programs revolve around:

  • Supporting mothers in vital prenatal care

  • Empowering women to lead sustainable businesses

  • Building up local churches to provide resources to their communities

Maternal Care Project

Currently, one of Live2Serve’s priorities is building a birthing center in the San Pedro de Macoris area. This facility will provide maternal health services and reduce childbirth risks to underserved populations.

According to Live2Serve, neonatal and infant mortality rates for Haitians are among the highest in the western hemisphere. Approximately 56% of women who die in the Dominican Republic due to complications related to pregnancy or childbirth are Haitian immigrants.

The birthing center will ideally be established near a local San Pedro hospital and will sponsor expecting mothers through their pregnancy, labor, and delivery. While Live2Serve currently needs support for one-time costs, monthly sponsorships will be key to running the facility once established.

Work to Wellness Project

Live2Serve aims to support women working to provide for themselves and their children with sustainable opportunities to generate income through their Work to Wellness project.

The organization reports that more than 35% of homes in the Dominican Republic are single-parent families, and of those, 90% are women. Many of these women are unable to secure legal employment, forcing them into horrible working conditions to survive.

Live2Serve partners with local community churches to identify and work with women who already have a business or are ready to launch one. An initial investment in a business opportunity empowers women to establish or maintain their businesses, which range from cooking to clothing and sewing and beyond. These women-led ventures make a positive, long-term impact on their local communities.

Support for Communities

In addition to the above projects, Live2Serve conducts food distribution, construction projects, education support, and the distribution of essential goods like clothing.

Live2Serve notes that among the Dominican Republic’s population of more than 10 million, over 40% live in poverty, and over 10% live in extreme poverty—which includes approximately 800,000 Haitian migrants. Since many Haitian migrants are unable to obtain working papers, they must work low-paying, unskilled jobs.
