Week 45 of #52weeksofgiving - Fashion Plates Fundraiser for National MS Society

We are spotlighting the National Multiple Sclerosis Society for week 45 of #52weeksofgiving on the heels of the Fashion Plates fundraiser. LeMay Family Goodworks sponsored a table for the event, which took place last Friday.

Fashion Plates is a fashion show and luncheon and the premier fundraising event of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Greater New England. The event’s primary goal is “to educate, motivate, and inspire business and community leaders to make the National MS Society one of the nonprofit organizations they support on an ongoing basis.”

The recipient of the 2022 Karen Van Houten MS Spirit Award, Cammie Bryant, was recognized during the luncheon. An auction was also available for both attendees and virtual participants.

Thank you to our friend, Ginny, for sharing this opportunity with us! Ginny modeled in the fashion show and said the fundraiser, held at Lombardo’s in Randolph, MA, was a great success and a lot of fun. We are always happy to support the National MS Society!

About Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a neurological disease in which the body’s immune system attacks and damages the central nervous system, slowing or stopping nerve transmission. Symptoms and severity vary for every patient and can alternate and shift over time. These include:

  • Numbness and tingling

  • Mobility challenges

  • Muscle spasms, especially in the legs

  • Blindness

  • Paralysis

  • Cognitive changes

  • Clinical depression

The National MS Society estimates that 1 million Americans live with MS. People are usually diagnosed between 20 and 50 years old, with women three times more likely than men to get the disease.

While there is currently no cure, and scientists still don’t know what causes MS, they believe it is triggered by a combination of factors related to the immune system, genetics, and infections.

About the National MS Society

Since it was founded 75 years ago, the National MS Society has been instrumental in the knowledge and progress surrounding this neurological disease. In the past, little was done or understood about MS. However, the Society has led major strides in living with MS, including:

  • Treatment development

  • Research breakthroughs and funding

  • Diagnosis standards

  • Advocacy and reform

  • Resources and events to support those affected by MS

The Society currently consists of more than 500,000 volunteers who support many of these efforts. They even assist patients by connecting them with trusted doctors and resources in their area. To date, the organization has invested over $1 billion in MS research.

Join the Fight Against MS

The National MS Society envisions a world free of MS. If you’d like to support them in their fight for a cure, there are many ways to get involved. Please consider participating or volunteering in a Society event like:

  • Walk MS: Grab your friends to form a team and participate in a Walk MS fundraiser near you.

  • Bike MS: Prefer to pedal? Team up with your cycling pals and join one of the 70 rides nationwide.

  • Challenge Walk MS: Join one of the 3-day 50mile walks to spread awareness and raise money to stop MS.

  • Finish MS: Enter a marathon near you as part of a Finish MS team and run for a cause.

  • DIY Fundraising: Bring your friends, team, or organization together in a fundraising effort of your own.
