Week 22 of #52weeksofgiving - Monarch School of New England - Rochester, NH

In the spotlight for week 22 of our #52weeksofgiving project is the Monarch School of New England! LeMay Family Goodworks was the Tournament Sponsor for the nonprofit organization’s 4th annual golf tournament, held last week at the Rochester Country Club. We’d also like to thank The Gallery Salon and Spa for sharing this special school with us.

It was a beautiful day on the course for a great cause. The tournament was a huge success, raising over $35,000 to support the school’s innovative programs and therapies that help students with special needs reach their greatest potential!

Since 1970, Monarch School of New England has been creating unlimited possibilities for students with significant disabilities. Now based in Rochester, NH, the school provides a nurturing environment where students receive one-on-one education and therapy services. Learn more about their critical work.

About the Monarch School of New England

The Monarch School of New England (MSNE) is a special education school for children between ages 5 and 21 with significant physical, medical, behavioral, emotional, and developmental disabilities. The school serves students from over 30 school districts across NH and southern ME whose needs are not being met in a public school setting.

MSNE’s wide-ranging faculty take a collaborative, creative, multi-disciplinary approach to make learning more accessible for students and keep them engaged in educational and lifelong community pursuits.

Each student’s curriculum and/or program is based on their individual needs and capabilities. The entire MSNE team is involved with each child, including teachers, program assistants, education technicians, behaviorists, school psychologists, speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists, nurses, and physical therapists.

MSNE is a member of the New Hampshire Private Special Education Association and accredited by the New Hampshire Department of Education. Their goal is to ensure every student has a successful transition to their respective schools and communities.

MSNE Special Education Programs

Day School Education

Students can be placed in the MSNE day program, which they can attend for an indefinite period of time. MSNE’s staff will meet with the student’s district regularly to assess the student’s progress and determine when they are ready to return to their home district.

Therapies & Related Services

To complement their educational curriculum, MSNE also provides speech language, occupational, physical, vision, behavioral, and nursing services. Students receive these related services according to their Individual Education Plan (IEP). The special education school’s experts use an integrated approach to support each student’s education and skill development through unique programs including:

  • Hippotherapy (using horseback riding to achieve therapy outcomes)

  • Aquatics therapy

  • Horticultural therapy

  • Adaptive skiing

  • Music and art

  • Social skills training

    Pre-vocational & Vocational Programs

Additionally, MSNE offers pre-vocational and vocational programs for students of all ages. Students have the opportunity to participate in work-based learning, starting with jobs in school and eventually moving to jobs in the community. Work-based learning includes training in:

    • Culinary

    • Hospitality

    • Retail

    • Technology

    • Woodworking and trades

    • Horticultural and garden

    Collaborative Team

By sending staff into school districts via their Collaborative Team program, MSNE supports students who stay in their home school. These specialists provide technical assistance to teachers and administrators and help them optimize their special education programs.

    How You Can Help

To support MSNE’s continued efforts, please consider donating to their innovative programs and therapies. The school is also working to bring adaptive recreation and physical fitness opportunities to their Williams High School campus. This customized equipment would allow the adaptive physical education and physical therapy teams to consistently work with students on their strength, endurance, and mobility.

Learn more about how your generosity can help MSNE expand their special education programs and easily make a donation today.

You can also help MSNE by attending or sponsoring their annual golf tournament and Harvest Festival and Walk! As a nonprofit organization, MSNE relies on these fundraising events to support their critical programs and provide the resources to foster students’ education and growth.

Follow the MSNE on Facebook to keep up with their latest events, efforts, and updates. You can also subscribe to their quarterly newsletter for more news and information.
