NH Gives 2024 Nonprofit Spotlight: Volunteers in Medicine of New Hampshire

NH Gives 2024 has wrapped up, but LeMay Family Goodworks is still excited to share two more New Hampshire nonprofits doing impactful work! We were thrilled to participate by donating to four new-to-us organizations.

Today’s NH Gives spotlight is Volunteers in Medicine of New Hampshire, a mobile clinic offering free health care to uninsured and underinsured New Hampshire families and individuals. We chose to support this incredible organization as part of our Wellness pillar, and can’t wait to continue helping them as boots on the ground! Without further ado, learn more about these volunteer healthcare providers below.

And check out two of our other NH Gives spotlight organizations, GoodWork and Liberty House

About Volunteers in Medicine of New Hampshire

Volunteers in Medicine of New Hampshire (VIM-NH) is on a mission “to provide free health care services to uninsured and underinsured residents in New Hampshire through the support of generous volunteers, donors, and community partners.”

So, how do they do it? This nonprofit operates a mobile clinic and partners with community organizations to deliver free primary care and acute care in easily accessible locations, including shelters, community centers, or outside of food pantries. The clinic also connects patients to local community resources and, ultimately, strives to find each patient a primary care provider.

Simply put, VIM-NH allows underserved and homeless families and individuals access to professional medical help where they are—a significant challenge on the New Hampshire Seacoast, as Dr. Robert Levey, Vice Chair of VIM-NH, explains.

Dr. Reiko Johnson founded this unique nonprofit in 2021 to lower barriers for vulnerable patients right here in our community. Cost, along with other obstacles, like lack of transportation, language barriers, and mental health challenges, can inhibit health care access for many patients. VIM-NH’s free mobile clinic model gives people the choice to get medical care in familiar, safe environments.

Currently, VIM-NH’s clinic is located at Cross Roads House two nights a month from 6-8 p.m. Those who are uninsured without a primary care provider are eligible for care. The clinic may be able to assist patients who have insurance but struggle to afford prescription coverage or co-pays. They do not require proof of income or residence.
